Youth Peer Support Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will play an integral role of support, coaching and guidance for children and families in need of high fidelity wraparound services in Pinellas and Pasco County. The High Fidelity Wraparound Youth Peer Support Specialist will work with the youth, case managers, wraparound facilitators, school social workers, DJJ, child welfare, family/caregivers and other agency staff to enhance the quality of life for children and youth ages 10-21 years old. The High Fidelity Wraparound Peer Support Specialist is required to meet productivity of 26 billable hours per week or 104 hours monthly.

Directions for Living is an essential services provider. All Directions for Living employees must be willing and able to provide vital support and essential services to the people that we serve in the event of an emergency, pandemic or other disaster situation. Essential employees may be required to work in the field, be "on call" and/or be available and able to work remotely providing telehealth services depending on the needs of the individual being served.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent and experience with community-based behavioral health.
  2. Certification as a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist will be required within twelve (12) months of hire. Been in recovery for a minimum of 1 year from a substance use or mental health condition preferred.
  3. At least 3 years' experience with community-based behavioral health.
  4. Proficient in the use of social marketing and media outlets, including Facebook and Twitter, etc...
  5. Public speaking experience; Above-average oral communication and writing skills.
  6. Knowledge of wraparound process and -; and strong commitment to child and family centered services.
  7. In-depth understanding of Florida public mental health/substance abuse system, including treatment protocols and system of care principles and values. Understanding of Recovery Oriented System of Care values and principles.
  8. Ability to represent DFL well at funder, provider and community venues.
  9. Must have vehicle to travel throughout Pinellas and Pasco Counties as required by the position.
  10. Ability to manage and organize multiple tasks and prioritize to meet grant data reporting deadlines and other action step deadlines of statewide directives.
  11. Understands the principles of Cultural and Linguistic Competency within systems of Care.
