Master Level Counselor

This is a professional clinical position providing therapy to the student and their families/guardians through the Treatment works Program which is a rigorous therapeutic services program model to serve all students K-12 in the Pinellas County School System (PCSS) who have been identified via the PCSS's District Threat Assessment Team to be in need of intensive services. Work involves the application of psychotherapeutic theories and practices.  Responsible to meet productivity requirements of 75% which includes 1440 billable hours annually or a minimum of 30 billable hours per week.  The Pinellas County Treatment Works program will include the ability to serve youth who have been identified as low to moderate risk and able to remain in school with intensive services and those who have been identified as moderate to high risk and are not able to remain in a traditional school setting. DFL will operate up to 4 teams a. Each team will consist of a Youth & Family clinician and a Student/Youth care manager. The entire model will be supported by the Integrated Decision Team - a shared decision making protocol. The Treatment Works counselor will assist the youth with social, emotional, and mental health awareness, education, and treatment. The counselor will act as the vehicle of change for each youth. The Treatment Works Counselor will work intensively with the youth to develop a blue print of the youth's complex traumas and inner working model. This blueprint will be used to educate the youth and all providers working with the youth on the youths' many strengths, challenges regarding emotional regulation, executive decision making, personality, communication barriers, self-image, relationship building capacity, and overall physical health and wellbeing. This blue print will be the bridge that connects all members engaged in the youths' IDT staffing. The counselor will be instrumental in providing insight and advocacy for all providers working with the youth.

 

Services will be available to students in all types of living situations and will principally be provided in the family home, inclusive of outside of normal business of evenings and weekends. Treatment Works will accept referrals from the Pinellas County Schools (PCS) only and the initial risk level will be determined by PCS. Services will be delivered through evidenced based and research-supported practices, such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Motivational Enhancement Therapy Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MET-CBT), Seeking Safety, Student-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), and Wraparound. Above all else, Directions for Living firmly believes in the scientific evidence of the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study and all services are delivered in the context of ACE and trauma-informed care.

 

Clinical and other wraparound services including outpatient detox, substance abuse treatment and medication management, psychological services/testing, psychiatric evaluations, primary care, full service pharmacy, labs, and group therapy will be available Monday through Friday. Directions for Living fully recognizes that this schedule may not be the most accessible for working parents or caregivers. To address this identified need, a Counselor will be available 24/7 via an on-call rotation that is used in similar service lines within DFL that target high risk youth and their families.

 

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or related field required.

Knowledge of DSM-IV and ICD-9 diagnostic codes.

Basic knowledge of psychotropic medications. Must have sufficient clinical knowledge and previous experience to provide clinical intervention with students and families who manifest a range of psychopathology, utilizing various treatment approaches including individual, family and group therapy, individual psychopathology and normal childhood development. Must have a willingness to learn approaches with which staff are less familiar as required.
