Position Summary -HomeBuilders Counselor: Provide Intensive Family Preservation Services using the HOMEBUILDERS® model, including crisis intervention, counseling, skill building, concrete services, and advocacy. Serve two to three families at a time whose children are at imminent risk of out -of-home placement, or who are in placement and cannot be reunified without intensive in-home services. Provide services primarily in client homes. Be available to respond to client crises when they occur. Reports to the Homebuilders® supervisor.

Directions for Living is an essential services provider. All Directions for Living employees must be willing and able to provide vital support and essential services to the people that we serve in the event of an emergency, pandemic or other disaster situation.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Structure services consistent with the Homebuilders® Standards:

• Serve an average of 18-22 families per year.
• Travel to client homes and other locations.
• Meet with families 3-5 times a week, approximately 10 hours per week, over a 4-6 week period.
• Maintain a flexible workweek, scheduling sessions at times that are convenient for families, and when problems are likely to occur, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Be available to client families 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Carry a cell phone or pager for 24/7 availability. Arrange coverage when unavailable.
• Accept referrals 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Complete client intake sessions within 24 hours of referral.
• Confirm client eligibility for service within 72 hours of intake.
• Provide back-up and support for other therapists as needed.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS HomeBuilders Counselor :

• Graduate degree in social work, psychology, human services or related field; Experience working with high risk children and families.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals, exercise discretion, maintain client confidentiality, and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently.
• Access to a computer and Internet on a daily basis.
• Valid driver's license with no restrictions; good driving record (no serious infractions in past 5 years);vehicle in good working condition; automobile liability insurance that meets minimum agency requirements.
• Meet state / contract requirements for transporting clients and f or unrestricted access to children (e.g., no crimes or negative actions that would affect background clearance, no driving infractions that prohibit transportation of clients).
• Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
• Valid counseling credential, if required by the State of Florida.
• Must be at least 21 years of age and must live in designated service area.

Must be vaccinated against COVID-19 or be willing to be vaccinated against COVID-19 immediately upon hire. This is a condition of employment, exemptions to this requirement must be addressed in advance with HR.
