Family Counselors

This position is in the Diversion Services Department provided through the Eckerd Community Alternatives Contract to decrease the number of children entering the Child Welfare System. The clinician will work in a team approach to utilize a solution-focused, family centered approach and evidenced based practices to assist families in meeting needs and goals while preventing further incidents of abuse, neglect and abandonment. This individual will work with the other members of the team to provide a supportive, empowering and respectful relationship with families to facilitate change and emphasize the need to take action by providing both concrete services and family interventions.

DUTIES

The clinician will provide therapeutic services in the home or in a place convenient to the family and the services needed. The focus of this position is to provide short term crisis intervention services to at-risk families. The clinician will provide services that will be flexible to the parents individual needs and will include a discharge/after care plan for each family upon case closure. The clinician will identify the family's strengths and resources and build upon these elements. Individuals in this position will participate in case staffings. Upon assignment to a family, the clinician will complete an in depth clinical assessment with a focus on Trauma Informed Care treatment at the initiation of the case, and update the assessment at critical junctures and at the closure of the case. Depending upon the risk level of the case, the number of weekly therapeutic visits will vary - high risk cases receiving more frequent counseling. This individual will be required to transport clients as needed and assigned. The therapist may be assigned to be on call for coverage after hours and on weekends. Staff are required to complete all corporate and industry related training for child welfare services, including the principles and techniques of Signs of Safety.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Have a minimum of a Master's Degree in Human Services or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Certified Addictions Professional (CAP) preferred.
  • Minimum two years related previous experience conducting comprehensive clinical assessment and one year of which is in child welfare.
  • Have strong working knowledge of electronic record platform; in particular, FSFN and be proficient in Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Profiler/Avatar electronic healthcare systems preferred.
  • Have knowledge of clinical workflow and a basic understanding of clinical terminology.
  • Have substance abuse treatment experience.
  • Must be available 24/7 for emergencies and backup as required. Ability to work irregular hours as needed.
  • Able to develop and maintain outstanding relationships with the respective staff of County Sheriff's Department and Eckerd Community Alternatives involved in this project.
  • Must have and maintain clear driving record, maintain required corporate levels of personal vehicle insurance and must pass safety vehicle inspection check.
